How to Find your Ring Size
You will need the following:
A piece of string or a strip of paper
A ruler with centimeter measurements
Simply measure the circumference (distance around) your finger (at the base) that is to wear the ring with a piece of non-stretchy string about 6 inches long or a thin strip of paper about 6 inches long and ¼ inches wide. Or, you can measure the diameter (distance across) in centimeters of a ring you currently wear. Mark on the string or paper where it overlaps on itself to form a complete circle. Use a ruler to carefully measure the length of the string or strip of paper from the leading edge to your mark. Find the nearest measurement on the chart below. That's approximately your ring size. (When in doubt between two sizes, it is always safer to go to the next larger ring size. This ensures your new ring will fit you.)
Note: If your knuckle is significantly larger than the base of your finger, you should also measure the knuckle as described above and pick a size somewhere in between the two.
Tips on how to get the most accurate ring size:
See that the loop of paper or string measuring the finger can slip over the knuckle easily.
Measure the finger when the hands are warm. Fingers shrink when cold.
The hand is largest at the end of the day. That is the best time to measure the finger.
Tips on how to get the most accurate ring size if you are buying for a surprise:
Ask your partner’s mother or one of her friends if they know her finger size.
Trace the inside of your partners ring (make sure to trace a ring that fits the finger you intend your gift ring to fit) on a piece of paper, which can be used to determine an accurate measurement.
Scan a ring your partner owns (make sure to scan a ring that fits the finger you intend your gift ring to fit) and print a copy to take with you to the jewelers.
Borrow one of your partners rings (make sure to borrow a ring that fits the finger you intend your gift ring to fit). Then slide it down a tapered candle, marking the candle where the ring stopped and then measure according to the directions above for How to Find your Ring Size.
